{"id":997,"date":"2016-04-19T11:54:13","date_gmt":"2016-04-19T11:54:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ezekiels.co.uk\/eylan\/?p=997"},"modified":"2016-04-19T11:54:13","modified_gmt":"2016-04-19T11:54:13","slug":"comms-under-microscope","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ezekiels.co.uk\/eylan\/comms-under-microscope\/","title":{"rendered":"School Communication under the microscope"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>It is one thing to want to make change, but to maintain a focus on impact: it takes respect, discipline and patience bring a team with you on that journey. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>As of our meeting last night, &#8216;Improving School Communication&#8217; is now part of the strategic planning at the school at which I am governor. Which is great, but not enough.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>We\u2019d like to invite others to help us research this better, and help us test the hypothesis that we can balance our work better, if we change one variable. Help us learn how better communication makes schools better.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although, we agreed that good communication, like healthy arteries, makes for a healthier organisation, it was a matter of faith that it would have benefits for teaching and learning, and for the administration (&amp; even the finances!) of the school. Faith in my experience, and in the statements of others. In reality, there was precious little evidence for tangible impact on school life. Tx to Parents@Play.com for the use of this image.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We agreed to start a major communication audit of the school, and explore the blocks, wins, and opportunities that exist now. As I have said in previous posts, about the<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ezekiels.co.uk\/eylan\/channelsaudiences\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> scope of the work<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ezekiels.co.uk\/eylan\/school-communication\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the nature of some of the problems<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with school communication, there is a problem of objectivity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We need outside help from expert researchers. This post is an open call for academics, perhaps from <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/education.brookes.ac.uk\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oxford Brookes University <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">or <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.education.ox.ac.uk\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oxford Department of Education <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(or both!) , to join us in this work.
